The Chief Executive of Permanent TSB (PTSB) says he is a 'huge advocate' of anything that protects the vulnerable.

Jeremy Masding was responding to questions about the new personal insolvency laws on which he says they have worked 'hand in glove' with the authorities to make sure they are right.

The bank yesterday announced plans to significantly increase lending targets for this year.

This is also set to include lendings such as mortgages and car loans.

The bank is 99.5% State-owned.

Mr. Masding says he was "really pleased to shut the door on 2012" as the bank spent all last year restructuring the institution.

He also called this move an "important step to put our footprint back on to the Irish banking landscape".

And when it comes to people in trouble with their loans he says he has been proactive in that area already.

He spoke to Breakfast here on Newstalk.
