The CEO of Vodafone Ireland says scholarships and mentoring programmes could be the answer to the shortage of women in technology careers.

Anne O’Leary was speaking at the Connecting Women in Technology conference in Dublin this morning.

The event saw over 200 women from Ireland’s digital industry discuss how to get more Irish firms online - and how to encourage more school leavers to consider careers in tech.

Vodafone Ireland CEO Anne O’Leary says providing tech sector role models to students would go a long way towards achieving that goal.

“Going into schools, talking to the teachers in the schools, the headmistresses. Also helping parents because you know there a lot form the home and you want parents to encourage the girls to stick with honours maths, to maybe stick with technical and engineering roles,” O’Leary said.

“So this group, Connecting Women with Technology, are looking at ways of doing that.”
