No more will you face the social scourge of that ‘recently watched by...’ list on Netflix. Want to watch a cheesy rom-com but don’t want the lads to find out? Have a secret infatuation with the cinematic work of Arnold Schwarzenegger that has got a little out of hand in recent months? Well, no longer will you have the worry about everyone else who shares your Netflix account being privy to your viewing habits.

Netflix is set to bring in a new ‘privacy mode’ in the near future. The company have been testing a new feature that will allow users to watch without Netflix making a record of what was watched. The feature is similar to the Privacy Mode now available on most web browsers, which allow users top enable a mode that keeps no record of sites visited, in the browser history.

Cliff Edwards, Netflix director, told gigaom.com, “At Netflix we continuously test new things. In this case, we are testing a feature in which a user watching a movie or TV show can choose to view in “Privacy Mode.”

And beyond the privacy, the other benefit would be more specific recommendations from Netflix, untainted by the time your 4 year old niece watched 23 hours of cartoons over the course of the weekend she stayed over – thereby totally realigning your previously carefully calibrated Netflix recommendations.

Netflix are currently testing the feature across all of its markets but will not make a decision on if the feature will become permanent until these tests are completed.
