The opening bell of the NASDAQ stock exchange in the US was rung from Dublin today. It is part of the fourth Web Summit at the RDS in the city.

A total of 10,000 attendees from Ireland and around the globe will attend the two-day event, which will see some of the leading global company founders, investors, start-ups and industry-leading firms come together at more than 60 events organised across the city.

Founder and CEO of the Web Summit is Paddy Cosgrave.

"The Web Summit's success has provided a superb platform from which to showcase Ireland and its start-up culture to the world’s foremost technology companies, but what is very exciting this year is how we have expanded the Web Summit to provide a platform for Ireland’s food producers to showcase their produce to an international audience with the Food Summit" he said.

The historic moment was broadcast on the exchange's iconic MarketSite Tower

"We’re also promoting over 30 of Ireland's best established and up and coming music acts during the Night Summit, a music and arts festival which takes place alongside the main event" he added.

The Taoiseach Enda Kenny and Mr. Cosgrave  rang the NASDAQ opening bell at 1:30pm Irish time. The exchange is home to approximately 3,300 listed companies, worth US$6 trillion.

The ceremony was also be displayed live on the NASDAQ MarketSite Tower, the iconic digital sign in Times Square, New York.
