The company already has a base in Clonakilty.

More than 100,000 customers use OpenText solutions, either on premises or in cloud form.

Fine Gael TD for Cork South-Central, Jerry Buttimer, has said the decision is further evidence that the economic recovery is strengthening.

"I wish OpenText every success in Cork. I have no doubt they will be highly impressed with the calibre of candidates for these roles. It is great to see that Cork has developed into a location that attracts leading technology companies. It now has a critical mass of tech companies which has in turn ensured that a strong talent pool of highly skilled employees is available for these employers," Mr Buttimer said.

While Labour TD Ciarán Lynch has said these roles added to Cork's reputation as a hub for IT support.

"These are highly-skilled roles, in the area of technical analysts and quality customer support. It comes only a few weeks after another company, SolarWinds, created 100 new software roles its Mahon office," he said.

"Cork is becoming a hub for these practices, and today's development will complement existing industries in the IT support and software areas," he added.
