Now in it’s third year, London Tech Week promises to be bigger and better than ever before. Since its launch in 2014, London Technology Week has hosted more than 400 events and the city has welcomed delegates from around the world.

More than 250 events will take place this year during the week, making it Europe’s largerst festival of technology. The events will take place right across the city at some of London’s most iconic venues including The Gherkin, Imax Theatre, Olympic Park and London Stock Exchange but to name a few.

Rather than focusing on one area such as start ups or products alone, London Tech Week hosts a wide range of events. From innovation showcases and networking events to keynote speeches and panels, there is something for everyone.

While there will be some interesting product on display such as drones, wearables and virtual reality headsets, some of the most exciting output will come from the discussions being hosted right across the week.

The various panels and discussions will explore topics such as the future of cars, how we will grow food in the future and what role should technology play in the classroom.

Opportunity

Mayor Sadiq Khan wrote about the role London plays within the tech scene in this morning’s City AM

“Today marks the start of London Technology Week, a fantastic opportunity for thousands of tech experts from all over the world to descend on the capital to learn and share new ideas and shine a light on this hugely important sector of our economy. In recent years, we have seen some brilliant companies in London that have grown quickly and become significant players on the international stage. According to the most recent EY Attractiveness Survey, we are now the second most likely city in the world to create the next big tech giant, behind only San Francisco.”

The Mayor also wrote of his intention to capitalise on this fact and his plan to appoint London’s first chief digital officer to oversee this effort and to encourage growth in the sector.

"I am passionate about this sector because I know that in London we have an opportunity to become the world’s number one city for tech and digital. I am determined to be the most pro-business mayor London has ever had and a big part of this will be working with startups, scale-ups, investors and creators to make sure we seize the opportunity to become the true global hub for tech."
