BHSL, an agri-tech company based in Kantoher, West Limerick has signed a twenty-year agreement with Cargill, one of the world’s largest privately-owned food production companies, to convert poultry manure to energy.

BHSL’s unique proprietary technology is currently the only approved system under new EU environmental regulations, to convert poultry litter to heat energy and electricity.

The system has been trialled by Cargill on two of its massive poultry farms in the UK, and is now likely to be rolled out to its 80 farms in Herefordshire alone and elsewhere globally.

The Cargill contract is not exclusive and according to BHSL, the number of people it employs should rise from 16 to 50 over the coming years, and potentially to hundreds, if it decides to manufacture the equipment required for the manure-burning process itself.
