The big talking point from the first day of Web Summit was the cost of food on site. Some delegates paid €20 for a burger and a bottle of water. It's safe to say that attendees were not impressed. Many of those I spoke to this morning had brought a packed lunch to avoid any such issues today.
Things kicked off just after 9am with Web Summit CEO Paddy Cosgrave welcoming people back for the second day of activities and then the talks got underway.
The Alpha and Beta start up areas were a hive of activity this morning. Entrepreneurs were actively pitching their businesses to anyone that would listen in the hopes of securing an investment.
Some of the interesting start ups on site here at Web Summit include "Down It". This is an application which helps users to drink responsibly but economically. Co-founder Jamie Speer explains what the company is about.
"We understand that finding the right bar in a new city can be hard, by seamlessly connecting you directly with the correct bars we can find you the most appropriate place based on your preference. With Down-it we aim to be the handy app to showcase to you the latest events, drinks prices and offers. We work hard to find only bars that are right for our users, be sure to download the app and discover great bars near you."
Another company that caught my eye was Famus. CEO Domingo Park traveled from South Korea to take part in this year's Web Summit. Famus is a social networking site for those working in the entertainment arena, where skills are more visual and can be underrepresented on a traditional CV.
"If, for example, you're a bartender it can be difficult to show off your skills. Famus allows users to upload photos and videos of their cocktails and other drink-making skills. You can manage your content and indeed market your content to other bartenders or perspective employers. It's kind of like a more interactive Linked-In."
Sean Rad of Tinder will take to the main stage at 3.45pm today to discuss the success of the dating app in conversation with Steven Bertoni of Forbes.
Tomorrow is the third and final day of the Web Summit in Dublin. Author Dan Brown and Ed Catmull of Pixar are just some of the stand-out speakers from tomorrow's line up.
