Mike Posner is currently sitting at the top of singles charts in Ireland and the UK thanks to a SeeB remix of his song 'I Took A Pill In Ibiza' but it hasn't gone down well with everyone.

The tourism board of the Balearic holiday destination has voiced its displeasure with how the song specifically ties the island to debauched behaviour as they continue to attempt to promote Ibiza as a getaway option for those outside the 18-30 partying bracket.

With a lyric laced with regret, the track has managed to make BBC Radio 1's A-list because it highlights the negative aspects of drug culture; namely feeling "10 years older" once you're sober.

Ibiza's tourism director Vicent Ferrer, however, is keen to show the 28-year-old musician the sunnier, healthier side of the island.

Speaking to AFP, Ferrer said:

"We have invited the author of this song to discover Ibiza because we have much more to offer besides the nightlife which is known worldwide".

"We have museums, beaches, culture, gastronomy, we have a wide offer but unfortunately we have been typecast this way.

"Unfortunately someone who wants to consume pills or alcohol can be found in any tourist destination, the fact that it is only us who are pigeonholed does not seem fair".

The Mediterranean sunspot became known as the dance music capital of the world in the '90s and has been synonymous with nightclub and drug culture ever since.

Posner recently talked to the NME about how the song was influenced by a trip to Ibiza with Swedish producer Avicii.

He says it was his first, and last, pill.

Whether he'll take Ferrer up on his offer is not yet known.

Here is the song's explicit  video, depicting a typically debauched trip:
