There was a time when Nokia made essentially bulletproof phones both in terms of their durability and their sales. Nokia dominated the European phone market for a long time. But it's been 15 years since the hugely successful 3210 was released and a lot has changed since then.
Companies like LG have managed to keep with the times but the latest figures that have seen Chinese firm, Huawei, jump above Microsoft in sales shows just how much the landscape has changed since the days of Nokia's reign.
Nokia could try things like the beloved N-Gage and whether it sold well or not they had enough diversification in sales to cover their losses. Now things are different. It seems the smartphone market is very much stick to the formula, especially for Nokia. They seem to be in a scenario where one more bad phone could spell disaster for them. And the funny thing is they aren't making bad phones.
Huawei grew it sales by almost 50 percent in the last year alone. Boasting it's P8 flagship, the company managed to sell 30. million units across their range.
Its impressive sales has placed it just below Samsung and Apple and just above Microsoft.
Apple's sales have grown again by 35 per cent as the sold 47.5 million units. While their nearest competitors sold a lot more units, they're typically cheaper than Apple's premium iPhone range.
It's been a while since the 3210 and while Huawei's surge has shown a change in the surroundings but let's not forget that the market is being led by a company who only launched their first phone 8 years ago.
