While globally, hotel room prices are up 3% overall. It is the fourth consecutive year that hotel prices have continued to recover.

Hotels.com says that despite the increases, Ireland still remains a great value destination for both domestic and international travellers.

It says increased visitor numbers, additional air routes and events-based tourism - such as the Wild Atlantic Way- have all contributed to the ongoing recovery of hotel prices.

According to figures released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO), visitor numbers to Ireland increased by 9% in 2014.

Lizann Peppard is spokesperson for Hotels.com.
