Hewlett Packard announced last night in the US its to cut between 25,000 and 30,000 jobs – that’s about one tenth of its global workforce – ahead of the planned splitting of the group into two separate listed companies later this year.
The timeframe and location of the job cuts were not specified in the statement
The group employs more than 4,000 people in Ireland in Leixlip, Dublin, Galway and Dublin, principally in research and development, financial services, customer services, and sales and marketing.
The Irish operation opened a new 90,000 square feet innovation centre at Ballybrit in Galway only last April, to house up to 700 engineers, consultants and customer support teams.
The group is to split in two later this year - one entity, HP Inc, will focus on the group’s traditional computer and printing business; the other, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, where most of the job losses are expected to happen, will manage faster growing corporate hardware and technology services.
