Google has announced that its iconic logo has undergone a makeover.

The new logo boasts a bold sans-serif typeface, which removes the little features on the lettering present on the previous logo incarnations. The colouring is a little lighter than it was before, while the distinctively askew 'g' at the end remains

A number of other changes have been made to the company's current imaging. Their 'little blue "g" icon' is now being replaced with a four-colour alternative, while the design of their microphone icon has also been changed to bring it in line with the blue, red, green and yellow branding.

Explaining the change, the company wrote on their official blog that, "we’ve taken the Google logo and branding, which were originally built for a single desktop browser page, and updated them for a world of seamless computing across an endless number of devices and different kinds of inputs (such as tap, type and talk).

"This isn’t the first time we’ve changed our look and it probably won’t be the last, but we think today’s update is a great reflection of all the ways Google works for you across Search, Maps, Gmail, Chrome and many others," they add.

While the Google logo has undergone minor revisions in recent years, this is the most significant change since the company dropped an exclamation mark back in 1999.

The new logo follows the recent announcement that the company is restructuring under a new parent company called Alphabet.

The newly created firm will house Google's main businesses, including its search engine unit, mapping and YouTube.

Under the reorganisation, Google will also be "slimmed down", with some of its newer entities to be run separately.
