The Taoiseach Enda Kenny says he "genuinely hopes" a deal to keep Greece in the Euro can be agreed this weekend.

Greece has tabled new plans to raise taxes and reform its pensions system, as well as raising taxes for its islands.

It is all part of a proposal to get over €53bn in new loans from the Eurozone, without which it could be forced out of the Euro by Monday.

Speaking at a meeting in Rome with his Italian counterpart, Mr Kenny says he hopes Europe will stand together to save Greece from further strife.

The Greek government has offered to raise taxes and reform pensions as part of a plan to secure a third bailout.

Th plan was submitted to the Eurogroup chair Jeroen Dijsselbloem two hours ahead of a midnight deadline last night.

The heads of all 28 EU member states will discuss the proposals at a "decisive" summit on Sunday, but they must first be approved by the Greek parliament.

The proposals also include plans to privatise ports and airports and an end to tax cuts for the islands.

Greek banks remain closed util Monday, with ATM withdrawals still limited to €60 per day.

If a deal is not reached by the weekend the country could leave the Euro.
