Apple's Worldwide Development Conference is taking place next week, and its highlight is set to be the revealing of Apple's as-yet-unnamed music streaming service.

The service will - like Spotify - cost $10 per month. It will avoid a limited free streaming model, and instead offer a number of ad-supported radio stations with DJ-curated playlists for non-subscribers.

The Wall St Journal reports that Apple is keen to sign contracts with major music labels before the conference. Universal, Warner and Sony music groups - the world's largest - have yet to sign up, and Apple may decide to delay the launch until they are on board.

Streaming will not be limited to Apple platforms, and an Android app will also be available.

For their free radio playlists, Apple have already signed BBC Radio One's Zane Lowe, and are reportedly in talks with Q-Tip and Drake.

With Spotify's continuing struggles to make a profit, and the disastrous launch of Tidal, a new approach by Apple could certainly make big waves in the streaming industry.
