Amazon is trialling one hour order-to-door alcohol deliveries in the Seattle area, offering wine, beer and spirits.

Seattle is the only location where a full off-licence service is offered, in other regions only wine is sold.

US tech site GeekWire tested the service yesterday and reported that they had drinks delivered to their door 34 minutes after placing the online order.

The site is also offering one hour deliveries on a limited number of products in Atlanta, Austin, Baltimore, Chicago, Dallas, Indianapolis, Miami, and New York through a stand-alone PrimeNow app.

Amazon, which is based in Seattle, enters the market at a point where the online alcohol deliveries are expected to generate sales of $1.4bn by 2020.

The service is available to users who pay $99 a year for an Amazon Prime membership - these products can be delivered within two hours for no extra charge, or within an hour for an extra $7.99.
