Almost 230 new jobs have been announced at two separate companies in the capital.

Airbnb has announced 200 new jobs at Hanover Quay.

The community hospitality company has already started hiring for the new positions - which will be located at a new extension to its Silicon Docks building.

The jobs are in customer service, human resources, finance and IT.

The Jobs Minister Richard Bruton says Airbnb is one of the most exciting companies on the internet, and described the announcement as a huge boost.

"Today's announcement by Airbnb, one of the most exciting companies on the internet, that it is creating an extra 200 jobs in Dublin is a huge boost to this strategy and great news for Dublin," he said.

The firm says the move is "to meet the needs of its growing community of hosts and guests."

The company has confirmed a lease for 'The Warehouse' - a planned 40,000 square foot contemporary office space. Over the next 14 months, this derelict warehouse will undergo restoration and modernisation.

The company has also taken additional space at its existing office location in Dublin 4 to allow for continued growth.

Aisling Hassell, head of Airbnb in Ireland explained why the company is committed to Ireland as a base for its European operations.

Meanwhile, 25 new jobs have been announced at Youth Nation in Dublin. The company specialises in youth entertainment and communications.

It currently employs more than 30 people in the areas of youth marketing, digital media and business development.

Jamie White is the co-founder and CEO of Youth Nation. He says they are looking to fill a broad range of positions.
