240 new jobs have been announced in Cork and Dublin today. 150 new jobs are being created in Cork, as the Mater private hospital plans to more than double its workforce as part of a €70m investment.

The vast majority of the new positions are post-graduate posts and include doctors, nurses and other health professionals.

The announcement comes as part of an investment that has been made in the 75 bed hospital in Mahon.

It provides a full range of services and has a recognised expertise in cardiology, orthopaedics, gynaecology, general surgery and gastroenterology.

Speaking at the announcement the Taoiseach Enda Kenny said "This is a significant announcement for the people of Cork and the surrounding region. Many of the new positions are highly skilled medical roles, which will be of interest to consultant and other healthcare professionals from the Munster region."

Paul Hegarty, head of the urology service at Mater Private in Cork added "This announcement represents a huge opportunity to attract high calibre surgeons/consultant doctors, currently working abroad, to return to Cork."

The hospital is part of the Mater Private Healthcare Group, one of Europe's leading private healthcare providers.

Ann Fitzgerald is CEO of Mater Private Cork and says it is great news for the area.

Meanwhile 90 new posts are being created at software company Sidetrade.

The French firm is opening a new office in Dublin to bolster capacity to worldwide customers, as well as to support its business operation in Europe.

The positions will be in accounting and financial, marketing and customer support roles in a number of languages. They will come on stream over the next two years.

"Our aim is to get closer to our clients in terms of culture and time zones while offering the convenience of multilingual support,”" said Olivier Novasque, CEO at Sidetrade Group.

"Dublin is a fantastic hub for technology and innovation, which are Sidetrade’s main pillars. Dublin and Ireland hosts a wealth of candidates especially within the multilingual sectors, who are well educated and motivated to succeed in their careers," Mr Novasque added.

Jobs Minister Richard Bruton added "Today’s announcement that Sidetrade...is opening a new office in Dublin with the creation of 90 jobs is a great boost for this strategy. I wish Olivier and his team every success with their operation here, and look forward to working closely with them as they expand their employment here".
