The unemployment rate fell slightly again last month and now stands at its lowest level in nearly nine years at 6.2%.

There were almost 134,000 people out of work in April according to the CSO, compared to over 140,000 in March.

That figure was 47,300 lower than April 2016.

Those most likely to be unemployed are men aged between 15 and 24.

The seasonally adjusted youth unemployment rate was 12.9% in April 2017 - that's down from 13.7% in March 2017.

Ireland's unemployment rate peaked at 15.1% in 2012.

Commenting on today’s figures, Minister Mitchell O’Connor said: "The continuing fall in unemployment for April is very welcome news.  Seeing the unemployment rate for April drop down to 6.2% from 6.4% last month and from 8.4% this time last year is very positive.

"It is important that we continue with our policies to ensure that job creation continues to grow right across the country."
