Republican candidate Donald Trump was greeted by jeers as he made his way to vote at a polling station on the Upper East Side of Manhattan in New York a short time ago.

Although appearing confident as he left he motorcade, some of the crowd booed and jeered the outspoken Republican who waved to those who had gathered outside.
He was joined by his wife Melania and several bodyguards in what is traditionally a Democratic city. His rival Hillary Clinton voted earlier.

For the first time, both candidates are due hold post election parties in the same city meaning New York officials have had to mount a massive security operation.
