President-elect Donald Trump is due to appear as a witness in a federal court civil trial, according to politico.com.

He will take the stand in his own defence over alleged fraud in relation to a real estate seminar program run by his Trump University.

The trial is due to begin on the Monday 28th November in San Diego and is an unprecedented situation for president-elect.

In an ironic twist, the District Court Judge who will hear the case is Judge Gonzalo Curiel who Trump publicly mocked calling him "Spanish" and "Mexican" when he was born in Indiana.

Politico are also reporting that because this is a civil case and not a criminal one, Trump will not be required to be present throughout the trial. He has already been deposed twice in relation to the case.

Trump was elected as the 45th President of the United States yesterday after defeating rival Hillary Clinton.

The Republican's win is seen as a stunning rebuke to the political establishment. However, he since struck a more conciliatory tone and is due to meet President Obama at the White House on Thursday to discuss the transition of power.
