Despite the critical drubbing that the most recent version of Warner Bros Batman has taken from film critics, the studio looks set to turn things around in 2017, when the animated scene-stealer from The LEGO Movie gets his own spin-off. And now it has emerged that The LEGO Batman Movie will launch this year’s Audi Dublin International Film Festival’s children and young people’s strand, with the chance to see it before its general release.

As part of ADIFF’s Fantastic Flix programme, a selection of features and shorts for ages 4-16, the Will Arnett-voiced Bruce Wayne will get things off to a deadpan start on February 4th.

In addition to the films screening, there will also be a number of activities, including workshops, short films and a Children’s Jury, designed to turn even the youngest viewers into the cinephiles of the future. Children’s writer Jacqueline Wilson will also be on hand for a Q&A.

The LEGO Batman Movie will be shown at Movies @ Dundrum on February 4th, with a pre-screening festival party taking place on site. The film will receive its nationwide release on February 10th. Tickets can be purchased here.

The film sees billionaire playboy Bruce Wayne dealing not only with the criminal underbelly of Gotham City, but also struggling with the perils of parenthood as he adopts a boy, played by Michael Cera.

Other actors lending their voice to the film include Jenny Slate, Ralph Fiennes, Mariah Carey, Zach Galifianakis, and Rosario Dawson.

Other family friendly films in the Fantastic Flix programme include The Red Turtle, The Illustrated Mum, and My Life as a Courgette, which was recently nominated for ‘Best Animated Feature’ at the Golden Globes.
