Aer Lingus has cancelled 12 flights to and from the United States because of a storm.

Storm Stella is expected to hit the east US coast, bringing blizzard warnings for eight states.

Flights affected include those from Dublin and Shannon to New York and Boston.

While Delta Air Lines has also cancelled its DL045 service from Dublin to New York.

People are being advised to check with their airline before travelling to the airport.

The storm will bring more than a foot of snow and strong winds.

It is also thought the  winds may cause power outages and tree damage in parts of the north-east.

It comes after Taoiseach Enda Kenny was forced to cancel some events for his St Patrick's Day visit because of the weather.
