A snow-ice warning has been issued for Ireland for the coming days.

The status yellow warning is in effect from 4pm Thursday, and remains in place until the same time on Friday.

Met Éireann says scattered snow showers will occur from late Thursday and into Friday.

The forecasters say 'slight to moderate accumulations' are possible, up to 3cm in parts, with icy stretches also expected.

North and northwest counties are said to be most at risk, as well as higher ground elsewhere.

It is one of three weather warnings currently in place around the country.

A status yellow wind warning for Donegal, Galway, Mayo and Kerry is in place until 11pm tonight.

Meanwhile, a separate wind warning is in place for Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo, Clare and Kerry as Storm Caroline approaches Scotland, with the passing storm expected to bring 'strong and blustery winds' to western counties here in Ireland as well.

Full details of all three warnings are available on the Met Éireann website.
