McDonald's has launched a delivery service in association with UberEats. It is currently being tested in London, Leeds and Nottingham.

Customers living in those regions and within two miles of certain outlets can order from the McDonalds' menu. The food is then delivered by a bicycle or moped courier.

This is the first time the company has entertained the notion of home delivery within the UK. 'McDelivery' has been available in the US since 1993 and India since 2004.

Rival fast-food joint Burger King began testing home-delivery in 2015, while KFC signed up to Just-Eat.

McDonald's say the new service is available from 7am - 2am, and customers will face a delivery charge of £2.50 by Uber, regardless of the cost of their order.

“Delivery is something that my customers often ask about, so it’s exciting that we’re now up and running,” said Claude Abi-Gerges, who runs five of the London locations taking part in the trial.

The company says it will look to roll out the service across the UK if the trial proves to be a success.

Figures published recently show home deliveries of ready-to-eat food grew 10 times faster than the eating out market last year.
