Just when we thought there would not be any TV debate between Taoiseach Enda Kenny and Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin on the Seanad referendum - it has happened.

The two men finally came head to head - and with a bit thrown in from the Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams too - in the Dáil this evening.

Some of it centred on the Fianna Fáil leader accusing Enda Kenny of a "con-job" - a charge rejected by An Taoiseach.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Enda Kenny says a decision has still to be made on whether he will participate in an RTÉ PrimeTime debate on October 1st.

Micheál Martin has already accepted the invitation, but no response has been issued from Government Buildings.

The spokesman said nothing should be read into the delay in responding, especially not to suggest that it may see a change of position from the Taoiseach who has declared he would not participate in a debate.

The spokesman also confirmed no "formal invitation" to a debate had come from TV3.
