Hundreds of houses in parts of the country are in the dark this Christmas night - as ESB crews work to restore power.

The company says it is aware of a number of faults affecting homes in Roscommon and Cork.

Meanwhile anyone taking to the roads tonight is urged to drive with extreme caution.

A yellow weather warning is in place for Munster and Leinster with up to 40 millimetres of rain predicted.

Met Éireann says the weather will continue to be wet and blustery tonight.
