Gardaí investigating the death of a man whose partial remains were found at a recycling plant in Ballyfermot have appealed to anyone with information to come forward.

The remains of 36-year-old Mark Burke were found at the Thorntons recycling plant on Killeen Road on the 31st August 2014.

Mr Burke was reported missing on the 11th November 2014 following a garda Crimecall appeal and was identified through DNA profiling.

Gardaí said Mark had been living at Bentley House in Dun Laoghaire up to a short while before his death.

He was last seen on Corrig Avenue, Dun Laoghaire close to the District Court House on Monday 28th July 2014 at 2.30pm.

Gardaí believe Mark was homeless at the time of his death.

In a statement this evening, gardaí said they have followed in excess of 600 lines of investigation in order to establish how, where, when and why Mark died.

The appeal for information is now focused on the Dun Laoghaire area - the scene of Mark’s last confirmed sighting and the area where he was best known.

There is a period of up to 80 hours for which Mark’s movements are unknown.

Investigating Gardaí now wish to establish Mark’s movements during this period of time. Mark was known to frequent the Dundrum and Dun Laoghaire areas.

Mark Burke was 36 years of age at the time of his death. He was a local man who was born in and lived his life in the Sandyford, Stillorgan and Dun Laoghaire - Rathdown areas.

Gardaí are appealing to all persons who knew Mark, who may have been in Mark’s company, saw or spoke to Mark, between 2.30pm on the 28th July and 31st July 2014 to contact them at Ballyfermot Garda Station 6667200, The Garda Confidential Line, 1800 666111 or any Garda Station.

Gardaí are also appealing to all persons who have any information, no matter what it is, in relation to the last movements of Mark - particularly whose company he may have been in during this period, and anything that may assist the investigation in determining how Mark came to his death.
