NBRU to meet for "exploratory talks" on Dublin Bus on Monday

Members of the National Bus and Rail Union (NBRU) are to meet for exploratory talks on Dublin Bus.

The NBRU say they have agreed to attend the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) for the talks on Monday.

General Secretary Dermot O'Leary said: "Whilst the request to attend at talks without preconditions is something the trade unions have long been calling for, the fact is that our members are extremely angry that the inaction to-date by the company and the Department of Transport has caused severe disruption to commuters and staff alike."

Cork overcome Dublin by the narrowest of margins to claim another All-Ireland title

Cork are TG4 All-Ireland ladies senior football champions for the 11th time in 12 seasons in a game that went right to the wire.

The Rebelettes sealed six-in-a-row with a narrow one-point victory over Dublin in front of a record 34,445 attendance at Croke Park – as Ephie Fitzgerald capped his first year in charge with the ultimate reward.

It’s the third successive year that Cork have seen off the Sky Blues in the Brendan Martin Cup decider and they turned the screw in the second half to get the job done in a low-scoring encounter.

But with just a point between the sides at full-time, a disallowed Carla Rowe effort that looked a certain score in the first half could be a post-game bone of contention.

Paul Kimmage says his relationship with David Walsh is "dead, it's over, it's finished"

Paul Kimmage says his relationship with David Walsh is finished, and has questioned his reporting of Team Sky and the controversy surrounding Bradley Wiggins' recent drug scandal.

Walsh, who covered Team Sky's exploits during the 2013 Tour de France in his book, Inside Team Sky, had his article in this week's Sunday Timesscrutinised by Kimmage and Gary O'Toole on Sunday's Off The Ball.

According to Kimmage, the tone and line of questioning present in the piece, in which Walsh claimed Wiggins' 2012 Tour De France victory had been tainted following the recent doping discovery, should have been present while Walsh was covering the race and the team at the time.

Fianna Fáil see a drop in support in latest poll

Support for the two groups in government has fallen slightly over the summer, according to a new opinion poll.

The Red C poll for the Sunday Business Post also shows a slight drop support for Fianna Fáil, despite the fact that the usually quiet summer period is often reflected in rising support for the parties in government. 

Despite the two point drop, Fianna Fáil - which is supporting the government from outside - remains the most popular party on 27%.

Mayo Country Council issues warning to drivers over 'lusty' deer

Motorists in Mayo are being warned of the risk of collisions with deer, as the mornings and evenings get darker.

The county council says autumn is the 'rutting' season - when lusty stags go off for some female companionship, while younger males are ousted by the more dominant ones.

It says this is bad news for motorists, particularly in a rural counties, where the number of deer and car collisions is a growing concern for National Parks and Wildlife staff.
