Gardaí are renewing an appeal over a fatal hit-and-run incident in 2011.

In the early hours of Sunday June 26th that year, 20-year-old Fintan Treanor was walking home after a night out in Castleblaney in Co Monaghan.

He was struck by a vehicle and fatally injured at Lemgare in Clontibret.

Gardaí say the Lemgare Road is a "quiet country road, little used by traffic."

Gardaí in Monaghan have made appeals over the last five years for information about this fatal hit and run collision.

These appeals have centred on an old model Audi A4 1995 to 2001 model, which was missing the front lower air-vent grille.

"Five years have passed and the driver of the car involved has not been located. Perhaps now after five years some person knows a person who disposed of an Audi A4 around that time", An Garda Síochana say in a statement.

"In five years, loyalties, friendships and relationships change and perhaps someone that felt unable to come forward before is now in a position to provide the investigation team with the vital information that would locate the driver."

CrimeStoppers have also issued an appeal in which a reward may be offered for information identifying the driver.

Anyone with any information are asked to contact Monaghan garda station on 047-77-200 - and from Northern Ireland 00-353-4777-200 - the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666-111 or any garda station.
