The ex-wife of the Egyptian man who admitted to hijacking a plane last week, has revealed that he is ''an extremely dangerous man'' and said that he physically abused her and their children.

Seif al-Din Mohamed Mustafa hijacked an EgyptAir aeroplane flying from Alexandra to Cairo on Tuesday and diverted it to Cyprus in an apparent bid to see his ex-wife and children. Mustafa also threatened to blow up the aircraft which had 72 passengers on board.

In an interview published in a leading Cypriot publication, Marina Paraschou described Mustafa as ''psychologically unstable.'' She also said that their five-year marriage represents a 'black period' in her life, in which Mustafa beat her and their children.

''This man never cared for his children for one minute, either when he lived here or when he went away. He only offered pain, misery and terror. And even now when he's in police custody, my children and I are afraid. I’m so embarrassed by all the publicity, and I don’t want to see him."

She also explained how her ex-partner was a 'fanatical' supporter of the Palestine Liberation Organisation and that he celebrated taking part in the killing of three Israeli soldiers.
