There are so many toys and options out there, we have broken it down to the 'must haves' this Christmas.

'Star Wars' toys have now overtaken merchandise sales from the previous favourite children's film 'Frozen', according to Argos.

This is being driven by parents and grandparents who were fans in the 70s, and they want the latest toys featuring in the new 'Star Wars' film for the first time.

Parents, who were children in the 80s and 90s, are buying toys to share with their children, while youngsters are clamouring for the latest 'Star Wars' characters.

The most popular 'Star Wars' toys are light sabres, the new remote-controlled Droid BB-8 and Lego 'Star Wars' products.

In second place are 'Frozen' toys, which are still selling phenomenally well - even though the film came out in 2013.

The Sing-Along Elsa and Elsa's Magic Snow Sleeve are the favourites.

In a close third place are characters from the 'Minions' film. Talking Minions and Tumblin Stuart are popular as are minion chairs, soft lights and Minion games, such as Operation and Monopoly.

Argos toy buyer Neil Bright says: "It's ten years since a Star Wars film came out and almost four decades since the first one so we have almost two generations of followers".

"The older fans tend to be collectors desperate to get their hands on the latest models. Parents want to buy all their favourite characters to share with their children and youngsters want the latest versions of all the characters in anticipation of seeing the new film. This could be the biggest Christmas ever for Star Wars toys".

While the Lego 'Star Wars' Advent Calendar claimed the lead in the week ending October 3rd, according to the Toy Retailers Association.

"Frozen and Star Wars aside, there are a number of brands performing well, including Shopkins, Little Life Pets, Paw Patrol, Toot Toot, LEGO, Nerf, Play Doh and Thunderbirds" said Frederique Tutt, toys global industry analyst at the NPD Group.

Still unsure what to get? The Toy Retailers Association says these are the best sellers:

  • Star Wars Advent Calendar (Lego)
  • Lego Minifigures (Lego)
  • Pie Face Game (Hasbro)
  • Nerf n Strike Elite Modulus Blaster (Hasbro)
  • Bright Beats Dance and Move Beatbo (Mattel)
  • Match Attax 2015 16 trading cards (Topps)
  • Star Wars Millenium Falcon (Lego Group)
  • Shopkins Fashion Deluxe Packs (Flair Preziosi)
