A total of 2,800 Irish families will have Christmas dinner this year thanks to the generosity of Brendan O’Carroll.

The TV star has donated vouchers for turkey and ham to Saint Vincent de Paul (SVP) which will go to families in Dublin, Kildare and Wicklow, who would otherwise go without Christmas dinner.

Speaking about the donation, President of the SVP East Region Liam Brady said "We have seen an increase in requests for food this year and these vouchers will make a huge difference too many families.

"The vouchers, signed Brendan, Jenny and all the Brown and O’Carroll families also make the vouchers themselves special.”

Calls for support to the SVP in the East region have increased dramatically in recent times, despite the upturn in the economy.

The region is set to deal with more than 65,000 calls for help before the end of the year

This isn't the first time that Brendan O’Carroll has made a generous donation, he’s worked with the charity for many years and was named ‘National Philanthropist of the year’ by the Community Foundation of Ireland last year.
