The Oscar-winning actress Angelina Jolie has filed for divorce from her husband, actor Brad Pitt, bringing an end to the world’s 12-year-long fascination with the Hollywood power couple often referred to as Brangelina.

Citing “irreconcilable differences” in the court documents filed yesterday, TMZ is reporting that Jolie, 41, has petitioned for physical custody of the pair’s six children, offering her 52-year-old spouse shared legal custody of Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, and twins Knox and Vivienne.

According to TMZ, Jolie’s lawyers have filed for divorce because of “the way Brad was parenting the children”, and was “extremely upset with his methods”.

TMZ claims Jolie will be represented by Hollywood lawyer Laura Wasser, dubbed the ‘Disso Queen’ of Los Angeles for her history brokering divorce settlements between the rich and famous.

Most recently, Wasser made headlines when guiding actor Johnny Depp through his very public separation from his ex-wife Amber Heard. Other celebrities represented by Wasser include Stevie Wonder, Melanie Griffith, Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Garner and Gwen Stefani, and she previously represented Jolie during her split from actor Billy Bob Thornton.

Robert Offer, another lawyer representing Jolie, confirmed the couple’s split to Sky News, saying in a statement that Jolie’s decision had been made “for the health of the family”.

Pitt and Jolie met on the set of the action comedy Mr & Mrs Smith in 2004, while the actor was still married to Friends star Jennifer Aniston. They started dating shortly after, only getting married in 2014 at their estate in France.
