Gardaí have arrested a 24 year old man in connection with the investigation into a fatal stabbing that occurred in the Great Water Street area of Longford this morning.
The man was arrested in the Longford area this afternoon and is currently detained at Longford Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
A man, believed to be in his early 30's was discovered with chest wounds was removed to Mullingar Hospital where he was pronounced dead this afternoon. The scene was preserved and technically examined.
Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have been in the Great Water Street/Rue Noyal Chetillon Street/ or the area of the shopping centre between 11.30am and 12 noon today to contact Gardaí at Longford on 043-3350570, the Garda Confidential Line 1800-666-111 or any Garda Station.
The Gardaí will hold a media briefing at Longford Garda Station at 12.30pm tomorrow, Wednesday 2nd November 2016 regarding this fatal stabbing.
