Reports of faults and flaws relating to the new iPhone devices and iOS 10 are circulating online in the aftermath of their launch. The latest claim is that turning a device onto Airplane Mode, whilst on iOS 10, can kill the signal permanently.

YouTuber, Yasser El-Haggen, uploaded a video in which is states that his iPhone 7 was not providing any internet service or allowing for any calls in or outbound. El-Haggen pointed out that he had 4 bars of signal, but no service was coming through.

“I put it in Airplane Mode, and back off, then it showed no service. It got pretty warm in the top right hand corner,” he explained.

The exact cause of the issue isn’t clear and it has not yet been clarified if it is an issue with the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus specifically, or if the problem is iOS 10. Other videos have surfaced online, illustrating the same issue.

Apple has advised their authorised repair companies to should tell customers to restart the affected phone, according to documents seen by MacRumors. And if that fails to rectify the issue, people are advised to remove and then re-insert the phone’s SIM card.
