Andy Rubin, the man behind Android, has unveiled the first smartphone from his new company, Essential.

Unsurprisingly, the phone is an Android device that places it head-to-head with the biggest flagship devices in the market.

Similar to the new Samsung Galaxy S8, the Essential PH-1 is almost all screen. There is very little border on this phone. The screen measures an impressive 5.7-inches, making it larger than an iPhone 7 Plus.

The PH-1 is a modular device, meaning it's possible to attach or detach accessories magnetically. One of the eye-catching accessories is a 360-degree camera.

The standard camera has 13MP lens on the back and a 8MP selfie-camera. Both have 4K capabilities.

Internally there's a Qualcomm 835 processor and 4GB of RAM. There's also 128GB of built-in storage.

As with all of the fancy phones, it comes with a number of colour options, each with a slightly ridiculous name. There's Black Moon, Stellar Grey, Pure White and Ocean Depths.

Unfortunately, the Essential PH-1 is only available to those in the US for now. It costs around $700 to reserve the phone.

Hopefully it will arrive to international customers before long.
