A lotto player from the North West has collected their cheque for €8.2m at the National Lottery headquarters today.

The ticket, which was bought on March 5th, was the subject of controversy amid reports of a legal dispute.

The player, who wishes to remain anonymous, bought the normal play ticket in the 'XL Shop-n-Stop' on Stephen's Street in Co. Sligo.

The Lotto jackpot had been rolling over since the 27th of January, and is the biggest ever win in county Sligo.

It was not the first Lotto win for the retailer Matt Lyons, however.

In 2009, his shop sold a €4.3 million winning ticket, and a few weeks ago Ciara Fallon won €276,000 on Winning Streak with her entry scratch card being bought in the very same shop.

Tonight’s EuroMillions jackpot is an estimated €65 million.
