Running from July 20th to 24th, the San Diego Comic Convention is undoubtedly one of the biggest events for movie fans to get their first glimpse of upcoming movie projects.

However, this year the folks at 20th Century Fox have decided not to attend, amid fears of piracy, with specially created footage for the convention being recorded on mobile devices and ending up online days, weeks or months ahead of scheduled.

Among the 2016/17 line-up for 20th Century Fox are Independence Day: Resurgence, X-Men: Apocalypse, The Wolverine 3, Assassin's Creed, Maze Runner: The Death Cure, Kingsman: The Golden Circle and War Of The Planet Of The Apes, none of which will now be previewed at the event.

Early rumours indicated that Disney were planning to follow suit, with their multiple Marvel and Star Wars franchises in the works, but a Disney representation has denied that any such action was currently being considered.

2015's SDCC resulted in several high profile trailers and footage leaks, including Deadpool, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Suicide Squad being secretly recorded and uploaded.
