ESB Networks has said it is “working hard” to get power back to 8,000 customers following outages caused by Storm Doris.

The company has already restored power to over 49,000 customers - but many will be left without power overnight.

“We are continuing to work in the worst impacted areas through the evening to get as many people restored as possible,” said an ESB Networks spokesperson.

He said crews have been working hard all day with 56,000 people left without power at the 10am peak this morning.

ESB spokesperson Bernadine Maloney said around 4,000 homes in the worst impacted areas may be left without power overnight:

Crews based in areas of the country less impacted by the storm have travelled to assist colleagues in the most affected areas.

Workers will be out again from early tomorrow morning to continue the work of repairing the network and restoring power to all customers

Gusts reached hurricane speeds of up to 140 km an hour overnight - but Met Éireann says the worst of the weather has now passed.

Areas still affected by outages include:

  • Castlebar
  • Sligo
  • Dundalk
  • Longford
  • Cavan

Customers without power can check for updates on when their supply is expected to be restored using the company's PowerCheck service.

ESB Networks has issued a public safety message warning the public never to touch fallen wires or damaged electricity infrastructure.

Fallen wires are live and extremely dangerous.

The company has asked members of the public to report any damage to electricity infrastructure by calling 1850 372 999 or +353 21 2382410.
