Google has confirmed that two new flagship Android Wear smartwatches will be released in the first quarter of next year. Both will be the first watches to ship with the new Android Wear 2.0 operating system.
The watches won’t be Google-branded, but will be under the brand of the company that manufacturers them. Google has collaborated with the manufacturers though, so they will be as good as if they came from Google itself. This is a similar situation to Google's Nexus smartphones, where they're manufactured and branded by companies such as LG and Asus, but built with close collaboration from Google.
Android Wear 2.0 will start rolling out to current Android smartwatch users once these new smartwatches appear on shelves. The update includes many new features such as more standalone apps that don’t need to be tethered to a phone and support for Google’s voice-operated Assistant.
