After making waves late last year when Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens filmed scenes in and around Skellig Michael, the huge franchise continued to film in and around Ireland for months more.

Only this week, primary filming of Star Wars: Episode VIII (rumoured subtitle - Fall Of The Resistance) has packed up on the Irish shores to continue the international shoot, including Croatia, Florida and Pinewood Studios in England.

With Rian Johnson (Looper, Brick) at the helm, Episode VIII filmed scenes in Cork and Donegal, set to replicate the isolated planet that Luke Skywalker has been hiding on for decades, which is why you've probably been seeing so many photos of Mark Hamill eating crisps.

However, with the cast and crew heading off, the producers of the movie left a lovely message in the Irish Examiner yesterday, thanking the people of Mizen in Cork for all their help during the shoot.

“Go mbeidh an fórsa leat! (May the force be with you!)."

Well played, LucasFilm. Well played...
