Ireland and Ulster flanker Chris Henry underwent exploratory surgery yesterday.
The flanker has been ruled out of action for the foreseeable future after he was diagnosed with a "temporary blockage of a small blood vessel in his brain" earlier this month.
Ulster team manager Bryn Cunningham says that they are now awaiting an update from medical staff on the results of yesterday's procedure.
In a statement, the IRFU said: "Chris is recovering from a procedure yesterday to repair a defect in his heart wall. This was found to be related to his recent episode and has been performed to prevent further issues."
Both Ulster and Ireland officials have said that they are confident that Henry will be able to resume his rugby career.
