WATCH: Man arrested following series of armed incidents in Dublin

Gardaí in Dublin have arrested a man following a series of incidents in Tallaght this morning.

The man, who gardaí believed to be armed, was picked up in Citywest just after 2pm.

Major manhunt

This morning, gardaí confirmed they were carrying out searches for an 'armed man' throughout the west of the city following “a series of incidents” in Tallaght.

The garda helicopter and a number of garda units are involved in the searches.

It is understood the incident began after a domestic dispute broke out at a house in house in Brookview, Tallaght after 5am.

It’s believed a man in his 30s had a fight with his girlfriend at her house before driving off in her car and crashing it.

He then hijacked another car and crashed again nearby

He then heading to the Watergate housing estate in Tallaght.

There, it is understood he forced his way into a house just before 7am - struck a man with what appeared to be a machine gun - and stole a black Renault Kadjar.

The man was last spotted on the Ninth lock road in Clondalkin shortly after that.

One man was injured during the course of the events.

This resident from Brookview says people are taken back by what’s happened.

Just after 10am, gardaí issued an appeal for the public's help in locating the black Renault Kadjar with the registration number 162 D 8767.

The driver was the car was believed to be armed and gardaí warned the public not to approach him under any circumstances.
