Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is in police custody, after his arrest on suspicion of misconduct in public office.

Today, on the former prince’s 66th birthday, police cars pulled up on the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk.

Mr Mountbatten-Windsor has been living in a private property on the estate for a number of weeks, which belongs to his brother, Britain’s King Charles.

He retired from royal duties in 2019 and was stripped of his titles last year, following sustained public outrage over his connections to convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein

In a statement, Thames Valley police reminded the public that a "thorough assessment" had been made of the allegation.

“It is important that we protect the integrity and objectivity of our investigation as we work with our partners to investigate this alleged offence,” Assistant Chief Constable Oliver Wright said.

“We understand the significant public interest in this case, and we will provide updates at the appropriate time.”

Searches are now being carried out at properties in Berkshire and Norfolk.

Mr Mountbatten-Windsor has long denied wrongdoing in his dealings with Epstein.
