When it comes to surfing the web, it's easy to get lost at sea. So let Moncrieff's regular guest Darragh Doyle, a man who knows a thing or two about what's weird and wonderful online, steer you in the right direction.

You can listen back to his full segment below, but here's what you need to know from the Internet this week...

  • An opening video... Young hip hop act Profound and his band performing the song Trees live

Pressrecord.tv is an Irish website that was started in March 2014 by John Barker and Robin Ball. It specialises in creating and hosting videos for acts performing new material.

They’ve worked with established acts such as HamsandwicH, Jape, Le Galaxie, Fight Like Apes and All Tvvins as well as talented emerging acts such as Bitch Falcon, Leo Drezden, Wyvern Lingo and Hare Squead. The videos are shot in Asylum Studios in Dublin 2 and give an insight into an act performing live in a studio as well as providing unique audio of the performance.

The winning entry will be announced at the Choice Prize Live Event in Vicar Street on March 3rd and awarded the Choice Music Prize Irish Song of the Year trophy. The Irish Song of the Year shortlist is compiled by combining selected songs from the Choice Music Prize Judging Panel, Today FM, and the Irish Airplay charts as compiled by Radio Monitor. The 2015 shortlist is:

  • The Academic – Different (Room 6 Records)
  • All Tvvins – Thank You (Warner Music)
  • The Coronas – How This Goes (Universal Music)
  • Daithi – Mary Keanes Introduction (Self Released)
  • Fight Like Apes – Pretty Keen On Centrefolds (Alcopop! Records)
  • Hozier – Someone New (Universal Music)
  • Gavin James – Bitter Pill (Warner Music)
  • Kodaline – Ready (Sony Music)
  • Otherkin – Ay Ay (Rubyworks)
  • Pleasure Beach – Go (Faction)
  • Politwoops - what tweets have Irish politicians deleted?

An archive of public tweets, deleted by politicians. Explore the tweets they would prefer you couldn’t see. Tweets are normally deleted due to typos and trivial mistakes; however, occasionally politicians delete tweets in an attempt to distance themselves from prior statements.

In the surprising it hasn’t happened already category, Specsavers Audiologists have a new app to help check your hearing.

The free app checks your level of hearing loss in less than 5 minutes and tells you whether you would benefit from a full hearing test in your local Specsavers store. You can then find your nearest store, book an appointment online and it offers information and advice about hearing loss.

It uses a speech-in-noise check to quickly indicate your level of hearing loss if any and can be carried out at home in a quiet environment. All you need to do is plug in a pair of headphones and plays a series of common sounds over background noises.

Two great things about this iPhone app - firstly, like many other photo apps out there, as well as the range of filters, camera controls and editing options, it allows you to add a signature or initials to photos you take - handy if you’re used to snapping and sharing online.

The better one is that it keeps your photos private in a secure vault - a separate gallery outside of your phone’s main Camera Roll or Photos app. That folder can only be unlocked with a pin - handy if you have to hand your phone to someone to show them a photo and they start thumbing through the other ones…

Abair Leat is the world’s first minority language mobile messaging app. Equipped with all of the functions you’ve come to expect in a mobile messaging app, plus an innovative new predictive text function and an exciting rewards system, Abair Leat makes minority language communication easier and more enjoyable than ever before!

Tired of autocorrect changing “craic” to “crack”? “Scoil” to “spoil”? Abair Leat can help with that! Abair Leat’s predictive texting function checks your words against open-source Irish dictionaries, to ensure that you’re getting the most enjoyment out of your Irish-language messaging experience, with minimal frustration.

  • Shryne - reclaim your digital property

Shryne helps you keep track of all your personal relationships by organising your Text Messages, Email, Google Hangouts, Facebook Messages, Facebook Photos, Instagram, and more into what they call a digital safety deposit box.

Download the app to access and organize your entire digital history. The app creates archives of all your conversations from across your phone and social media so that you can see a snapshot of your relationship with people at any point in time.  Archive your favorite relationships in their entirety, search for specific conversations, and explore personal analytics. Your Shryne experience is completely secure and private.

Artists and musicians get only the lyrics to a song they've never heard before and have to write music for it and perform it an hour later - Mendeleyev performs his soulful rendition of Walking on a Thin Line by Huey Lewis & the News:
