The Democratic Unionist Party and Sinn Féin are on course to stay in power after the Northern Ireland Assembly election.

As counting continues - the two groups are expected to solidify their positions as the largest parties on their respective sides of the unionist-nationalist divide.

Independents have also notched some significant scalps - with the People Before Profit Alliance on track to secure two seats. Gerry Carroll became the first PBP member of the assembly.

Earlier today, Northern Ireland first minister and DUP leader Arlene Foster was re-elected in Fermanagh.
