Theresa May has just dealt with the first PMQs from Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn today, and now the newly-instated British Prime Minister is preparing to take on Europe.

She flies to Berlin this afternoon for a "working dinner" with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

On Thursday evening, she will meet French President François Hollande in Paris.

May has said that her discussions will see her "talk frankly and openly" about Brexit.

“These visits will be an opportunity to forge a strong working relationship that we can build upon and which I hope to develop with more leaders across the European Union in the weeks and months ahead,” she said.

“I do not underestimate the challenge of negotiating our exit from the European Union and I firmly believe that being able to talk frankly and openly about the issues we face will be an important part of a successful negotiation.”

The British PM has already informed European Council President Donald Tusk that the UK will not take up its six-month presidency of the council in 2017, owing to Brexit preparations.

Relinquishing the role was "the right thing to do", May said, as the nation is "prioritising negotiations to leave the EU."

Tusk welcomed the "swift" decision and said that he had asked May for a "velvet divorce".
