Liverpool's late win over PSG at Anfield on Tuesday night will add to the long list of magical European nights in the clubs history, but the manner of their victory tells us so much more about the side's ability.

A late Roberto Firmino goal handed Jurgen Klopp's side all three points, on a night when the club's lesser stars shone birghtest.

James Milner and Daniel Sturridge both got themselves on the scoresheet and went some way to shirking their tags of forgotten players within the club.

On Wednesday's #OTBAM, The Independent's Simon Hughes said Milner's performance in particular was reflective of a much broader evolution at Liverpool.

"Milner really symbolises this resurgence from Liverpool," he said. "Who would have said two years ago when he was stoically running up and down the left wing that he would be - and let's be honest - the best player on the pitch last night.

"He set the tone, him and Henderson in midfield. I know Jordan Henderson has his critics, but it was a really important performance for him because he's in that area of the pitch where you've got Neymar and Mbappe.

"Milner was outstanding from start to finish and has been for every game this season. He looks like he's really embraced the competition that Klopp has got in midfield."

The German manager has picked up maximum points from his side's opening five games of the Premier League season and sit second to a similarly flawless Chelsea side.

Hughes explained how Klopp has crafted a team in the image of himself.

"It's got his personality stamped all over it. Liverpool has become Jurgen Klopp's club.

"A lot has changed behind the scenes at Liverpool since he came and [brought] his natural enthusiasm. It's such an important ingredient to the team and you can see every single player is loving playing football.

"His presence has sorted out a lot of the problems that were at Liverpool. He doesn't paper over the cracks, I think they've become a lot more together since he's arrived. 

"If Liverpool don't go much closer [to the title] this year I'll be very surprised."

He added: "The players look like they're playing naturally [...] Klopp has managed to find the natural position for each player and designated responsibilities for each player. They've become so difficult to beat as a consequence of that."
