Andy Lee believes that the Canelo Alvarez - Gennady Golovkin fight stands among the best boxing matches of any era.

The Las Vegas showpiece resulted in a win on points for Canelo Alvarez, whose participation in the fight was controversial due to a recent one-year drugs ban; reduced to six months on appeal. But Andy maintains that the fight was of such quality that the prevailing problems pale into the background.

"All that went on the year before it, from the September to the September - it's almost forgivable. You can almost justify it, that [Canelo] deserved to be in that ring. What they did in that ring was unbelievable.

"Each round was like the last round of a completely dead-even fight. They fought every round like it meant something. There was no breaks, there was no taking off. Every round was competed at the highest level. 

"It was a classic fight. That fight could stand up there with the one of the best fights from any era."

And if there's anyone that should know - it's Andy. He was also taken aback by the coverage of a fight that he felt favoured Golovkin in instances where Andy felt that Alvarez was on top: "I couldn't believe what I was hearing."
